“Always Date Your Husband”

by Jrodius on 04/29/2009

That’s what the card read on one of my wife’s bridal shower gifts:NN_27obama2 “Always Date Your Husband.” And it’s true.  We all want to feel like we are still special, like the fire inside the person we love still burns strong.

On my way to work today I was listening to POTUS on my XM radio, as I always do, and heard the opening remarks to Obama’s town hall meeting.  I was struck by how similar in tone it was to his speeches from the campaign trail.  I thought to myself, “Why is he trying so hard?  He’s already got the job.”  That’s when I was reminded of that card from Mrs. Rodius’ shower.  Of course he is still campaigning.  He should always be campaigning.

And like a husband or wife, the moment he stops campaigning is the moment we should start questioning how good of a partner he is to us.  I know the act of comparing Obama vs Bush is getting tired, and to be frank it’s becoming like pitting Celine Dion vs William Hung in a singing competition, it’s just not fair.  But I can’t stop myself from juxtaposing the two.  Obama’s accessibility to the public has won over America and the world.  His numbers are still great in terms of Approval and Country Direction compared to both Bush and Clinton at the same points of their terms. And furthermore his individual numbers are better than that of either party by themselves.  Which means he is doing something I love, separating himself from party affiliations.

I truly believe this is in part because he is choosing to still “date us” as a country.  If you don’t believe me find a video of today’s town hall meeting.  Don’t settle for sound bites you see on tonight’s pundit news hours.  When you watch it you’ll see what I mean.  He continues to hammer home what his lofty goals are.  Regardless of whether you agree with his politics or not, you have to admire the drive that the man has.  After, perhaps, the most brutal first 100 days in office any President has had to endure, Obama has come out the other side fairly clean and still full of desire.

There have been a few fuck ups, like cabinet member vetting, Air Force 1 flyovers, and some of the excess spending in the stimulus package, but over all I can’t say he’s done poorly.

But after a brutal honeymoon period, I guess I’m just stoked as an American, that my Presdient continues to stick by me and has decided that it is part of his job to keep courting me, long after we as a country said “We Do.”

What do you all think?  Ready for a trial separation?  You had enough of his shit and want a divorce?  Do you think “He can change…”?  Or Can you still feel the butterflies?

Christian Nation?

04.10.2009

This week I have heard a lot of outrage regarding Obama’s comments while in Turkey.  Specifically regarding his comments on whether or not America is a Christian Nation.  This has stirred up a bunch of controversy for some folks.  But, unfortunately, I am consistently seeing the President misquoted by many of these folks.  Let’s try [...]

The Curious Case of Beautiful Beckham

02.15.2009

Being that I am my social circle’s lone source of information on all things, first of all, soccer, and second of all, Galaxy, I am constantly getting asked about the Beckham situation.  Short recap: Beckham was sent out on loan to AC Milan during the Galaxy offseason to keep fit.  If he is able to [...]

On Feb 11th at 4pm PST, one day before my birthday, I’m hoping for an early gift. It is one of the biggest days of a four year cycle for me. La Guerra Fria. It is the USA v. Mexico World Cup Qualifier, played in the cold of Columbus Ohio. The [...]

File this post under the Too Much Information category.
In high school I was enrolled in the Advance Placement program for History.  My Junior year I had AP US History.  The course was different than other courses.  For one, it didn’t use normal text books.  It seemed that the teacher had more free reign over the [...]
