Fox News Hates Smart People

by Jrodius on 02/19/2010

I thought about letting this next clip just speak for itself.  But then it struck me that most people can’t tell the difference between when crappy pop stars are lip syncing and when they aren’t.  And if people are going to believe that Brittany really sounds that good then I really can’t trust you to sniff out the bullshit Fox News is feeding you.

Have a gander and I’ll meet you on the other side.

This may be one of the worst examples of journalism I have ever seen.  Let’s point out one simple fact, not until two thirds of the way through this piece do they even cite who did the study.  They completely lay out their agenda for the piece before getting to even the name of it.  What kind of shady news is this?  How is the public you are “informing” supposed to further educate themselves on the news you are bringing into their homes.  In my opinion, Fox News watchers don’t desire any further education beyond the simplistic facts spoon fed to them.

Let’s break down a few issues.  Everyone knows that the first rule of intelligent debate is that you never speak in absolutes.  For the Fox News watchers out there, an absolute is when you use words like “all, always, every” when in fact you know that those words are untrue.  See douche bag Tucker Carlson’s statements at the 00:34 mark where he claims that all authority figures at every school have the same political view.

So you are telling me there is not one Conservative instructor anywhere in the United States?  I’m sure that would be a surprise to former college professor Newt Gingrich…

Here’s some further evidence of poor journalism, if you are going to spout off facts and statistics of this study as Carlson is, don’t then side step the question, “Does this study have any flaws?” by saying you don’t have it in front of you.  You have obviously read it enough to be able to quote statistical information from it.  And it’s not like he didn’t know he was coming on the show.  So being unprepared is not an excuse when asked a question that challenges your position.

But herein lies the problem.  If this was a true news channel, hosted by a true journalist, the host would have held Carlson’s feet to the flames on this issue.  He would have called him out on his bullshit rhetoric.  But that doesn’t happen here because cable news is news with an agenda.

Lastly let me address one topic.  The statistic that one third of students surveyed can’t name the three branches of government is quoted in this piece.  I have another stat for you.  According to a 2005 study 36% of college students are high RIGHT NOW!

So does it shock me that 18% don’t know a right guaranteed by the first amendment? No!

Does it surprise me that 33% don’t know the three branches of government?  No!

These are twenty year old college kids that, if my college experience is any indicator, have a foam pit in their back yard where a duck named Sassafras watches all the dumb fucks play a game called Detonator, where dudes stand in a circle and take turns slamming a beer against their skull till it explodes!

Have some fucking perspective people.  And stop watching shitty news that would rather scare you than inform you.  College is good, and your kids are fine.  As long as they don’t watch Fox News or stay a virgin like Tucker Carlson.

Detroit Barack City

12.29.2009

Wanted to pass along a couple of things regarding Obama and the whole attempted Detroit airplane bombing.  Along with you, I have been hearing a lot of chatter about the incident.  It’s unavoidable, really.  Christmas day terrorism is the kinda things that moves a lot of newspapers and tunes in TV’s.
Let’s be frank, we got [...]

My Response

06.06.2009

The following is my response to a friend who posted a video on Facebook with the tagline, “Anyone with any doubt needs to watch this video.”  Here is said video:

Here are my thoughts on the video above:
Mr. Forbes’ first point, about the minister, has nothing to do with law. Just because a bunch of Christians [...]

“Always Date Your Husband”

04.29.2009

That’s what the card read on one of my wife’s bridal shower gifts: “Always Date Your Husband.” And it’s true.  We all want to feel like we are still special, like the fire inside the person we love still burns strong.
On my way to work today I was listening to POTUS on my XM radio, [...]

Let’s Be Clear

04.21.2009

Today I want to talk about two topics.  More than anything I want to clarify two issues rolling around in the news.  Both of which have been talked to death, but I’m not sure the side I find to be truthful is being represented clearly.
The first being the now infamous “Boyz n the Hood” hand [...]

No Tea For Me

04.17.2009

I’m going to be unfair.  Let’s just address this up front.  I plan to use the thoughts from a small segment of a small population to make my point.  But I don’t think this will make my point any less valid, because whether or not they represent the whole group, the people still said it.
So [...]

To Do List

03.02.2009

Back in November I commented on a post by one of my favorite bloggers TJ Shelby.  The post was about Obama’s views on religion.  As commentaries often do, this one veered off a bit and I ended up posting on what my immediate expectations were for Obama in his first first months in office.  These [...]

Stimulate Me

01.30.2009

I’m having a really hard time with the this weeks vote on the stimulus bill.  People who have read my blogs over the last few years at my old site will know that I hate the political party system.  It bogs down government and is an excuse for most voters to be lazy.  It is [...]
