Detroit Barack City

by Jrodius on 12/29/2009

Wanted to pass along a couple of things regarding Obama and the whole attempted Detroit airplane bombing.  Along with you, I have been hearing a lot of chatter about the incident.  It’s unavoidable, really.  Christmas day terrorism is the kinda things that moves a lot of newspapers and tunes in TV’s.

Let’s be frank, we got pretty lucky on this one.  Let’s also be honest, this is awesome for the Democrats.  Getting the botched and flawed health care bill off the front pages is exactly what Harry Reid asked for from Santa Claus.  Actually the only person happier with the deflected media attention is probably Tiger Woods.

But I want to address two points in particular that I am hearing bandied about regarding Obama handling the situation.  They both stem form the similar complaint that he has not handled the situation correctly.  Let me give you all a fun fact that you may have missed during the pagan celebration of the winter solstice, which the Christians stole and now call Christmas.  President Obama actually approved and carried out an air strike in Yemen the day before the Detroit incident, citing that “an imminent attack against a U.S. asset was being planned.”

So, to summarize, our President acting on good intelligence launched an attack on an Al Qaeda training facility in Yemen, where the bomber was trained and picked up his explosives, the day before an attack was attempted.  It is in fact the customs agents in Amsterdam, an entirely different country, that missed the guy with explosives as he boarded the plane.  What more could he have done to try and prevent this attack, short of knowing the guy’s Twitter account to see what he was up to that day?

“So whatchu wanna do? Gotta pocket fulla resin and my homeboys do too! #jihadandjuice”

The other thing people seem to be heaping on the guy is that he took too long to come out and address the media himself, even though he made official statements through his senior advisers.  For people that agree with this statement I implore you to read Marc Ambinder’s article at The Atlantic entitled “Why The President Went Golfing Today”.  It is a great breakdown of why Obama made the correct choice not to put the country into panic over a situation that was being controlled.

Scare tactics were the hallmarks of Bush’s presidency.  Ruling through fear is not a Presidential way to handle things.  With an economy finally turning a corner, the last thing we need as a country is panic and uneasiness.  If you ask me he handled it just right.

Stimulate Me

01.30.2009

I’m having a really hard time with the this weeks vote on the stimulus bill.  People who have read my blogs over the last few years at my old site will know that I hate the political party system.  It bogs down government and is an excuse for most voters to be lazy.  It is [...]
