This one is for the sports nerds out there. I love fantasy football like Jim J Bullock loves bulging banana hammocks. That’s right you just read a Monroe from Too Close From Comfort reference. I ain’t afraid to go there.
With August just a summer sniff away that means fantasy football is in the air. Which means shit talking, last second trades and colorful tirades aren’t far behind. If your leagues don’t involve such things then it sucks. If it doesn’t have people bitching, then y’all ain’t doing it right.
All those features aside, my #1 favorite part of fantasy football is almost upon me. Draft night. Many seasons are won and lost on this one evening weeks before the first ball is kicked. Armed with clipboards, magazines and your own mental fortitude I see it as a mental chess game.
What do you do when the guy right before you picks up the running back you wanted? What’s your back up plan? How deep are you prepared? What if the three guys before you took the RB’s you wanted? Do you go for the premier WR instead?
And every year I am constantly amazed how players have no idea how to answer these questions. Or how many people only go for sexiness. The players you see with the bling on. I prefer the players with potential to put the ring on. The guy you probably don’t know yet, but will soon. The draft is where real players set themselves apart.
Over the last three seasons I correctly identified the diamonds in the rough. Three years ago I grabbed Frank Gore, as cocked eyebrows around the room told me these fools had no clue. Two years ago I grabbed both Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch in their rookie seasons as the other guys thought Larry Johnson still had one more season in him. Last year I picked up Matt Forte, Johnathon Stewart and Calvin Johnson in their break out seasons.
All the real playa’s know that fantasy rosters are made in rounds 4-10, not 1-3. And those are the rounds I grabbed most of those players listed. But if you still wanna use ESPN’s ranking to dictate your picks go ahead, it just makes my job that much easier. Cuz I am using 4 sources to everyone one of yours. Your bringing a knife to a nuke fight, and you don’t even know it.
The fact is, I have one website in particular that has guided me more than any other on the web or the newstand. And I will never tell what it is. A site with free cheat sheets so good I can’t believe they don’t make me pay. But the reason I found it, is because I do my homework. I ain’t cramming the night before the test. By draft night I could probably do the first 12 rounds blind if I had to.
The ironic thing is that most of the guys in my league do do it blind, but they just don’t realize they are doing it. So all you Fantasy Helen Keller’s bring it on, cuz I am going to wipe the draft floor with you all over again this year.
