“Always Date Your Husband”

by Jrodius on 04/29/2009

That’s what the card read on one of my wife’s bridal shower gifts:NN_27obama2 “Always Date Your Husband.” And it’s true.  We all want to feel like we are still special, like the fire inside the person we love still burns strong.

On my way to work today I was listening to POTUS on my XM radio, as I always do, and heard the opening remarks to Obama’s town hall meeting.  I was struck by how similar in tone it was to his speeches from the campaign trail.  I thought to myself, “Why is he trying so hard?  He’s already got the job.”  That’s when I was reminded of that card from Mrs. Rodius’ shower.  Of course he is still campaigning.  He should always be campaigning.

And like a husband or wife, the moment he stops campaigning is the moment we should start questioning how good of a partner he is to us.  I know the act of comparing Obama vs Bush is getting tired, and to be frank it’s becoming like pitting Celine Dion vs William Hung in a singing competition, it’s just not fair.  But I can’t stop myself from juxtaposing the two.  Obama’s accessibility to the public has won over America and the world.  His numbers are still great in terms of Approval and Country Direction compared to both Bush and Clinton at the same points of their terms. And furthermore his individual numbers are better than that of either party by themselves.  Which means he is doing something I love, separating himself from party affiliations.

I truly believe this is in part because he is choosing to still “date us” as a country.  If you don’t believe me find a video of today’s town hall meeting.  Don’t settle for sound bites you see on tonight’s pundit news hours.  When you watch it you’ll see what I mean.  He continues to hammer home what his lofty goals are.  Regardless of whether you agree with his politics or not, you have to admire the drive that the man has.  After, perhaps, the most brutal first 100 days in office any President has had to endure, Obama has come out the other side fairly clean and still full of desire.

There have been a few fuck ups, like cabinet member vetting, Air Force 1 flyovers, and some of the excess spending in the stimulus package, but over all I can’t say he’s done poorly.

But after a brutal honeymoon period, I guess I’m just stoked as an American, that my Presdient continues to stick by me and has decided that it is part of his job to keep courting me, long after we as a country said “We Do.”

What do you all think?  Ready for a trial separation?  You had enough of his shit and want a divorce?  Do you think “He can change…”?  Or Can you still feel the butterflies?

The Crisis of Credit

Thanks to Taller for passing this my way.  What follows is a fascinating yet accessible visual explanation of how we created our current financial crisis.  This video was made by a gentleman at the Art Center College of Design named Jonathan Jarvis.  You can view the original site here.
For lay people, such as myself, this [...]

Feet to the Fire

I know a lot of people will bash John Stewart for being a liberal and feel he only propagates his personal agenda on his show.  But I implore you to watch the following interview.  The man has the balls to call out the media on its bullshit.  If you want to understand better what is [...]

Cleaning Out the Closet

I try to make a habit of noting sites and videos that intrigue me. I have to do this in order to create content for this site. Otherwise there would only be reactionary “taint licking” stories about yoga all the time.  What I end up with is all these notes about various topics, [...]
