Cleaning Out My Closet

by Jrodius on 11/02/2009

No, not coming out, cleaning out.  I was over at my mom’s house the other day trying to fix a problem on her balcony, which I was unsuccessful.  After my home repair failure I was in the garage putting stuff away and I came across a bunch of totes I had packed stuff away in when we moved houses back in like ‘98-99.  I moved to San Diego for school right at the same time my family built their new house and moved into it.  So, not having much space in my dorm, and having no room of my own at the new house, I just packed a lot of stuff up and never thought about it again. Anyway, I thought I would share some of the stuff I found in my own personal time capsule.

Let’s set a disclaimer at this point.  Yes, I know I am a hopeless geek of which many of these personal possession will attest to.

This first pic is of two of the four 12″ Star Wars action figures I bought when they were first released at Toys R’ Us.  All four are still sealed and 3 are still undamaged.  The two you see here are Han Solo and Darth Vader, I also have Luke Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi.

If at any point you thought I was kidding about my geek level this next picture should sufficiently convince you.  These are two items that served as a mini-shrine I had to Michael Knight in my bedroom.  Come on, can you blame me?  Dude rocked chest hair and a hair helmet fitting of Frankie Avalon and consistently paired them with awesomely over-sized belt buckles.  Oh and there was a cool talking car too…  The flower is actually my senior year Prom boutonnière.  I guess I had pinned it to this book to display it in my room back in the day.

Did you ever wonder exactly what you were listening to at one point in your life?  Well I had that question answered when I found this old cassette Walkman.  I was really stoked, hoping I would find a tape inside it as a time capsule within a time caspsule.  Sure enough there it was, Pearl Jam’s “Ten.”  Not bad if I do say so myself.

Lastly, next to my Michael Knight shrine in my old bedroom were all my trophies from sports or academics (yes there were some).  But I always liked this one the most, because I think it was one of the first ones I ever earned and it was something I earned alone, not a team award.  It was for having the first place Young Authors book for the 4th grade class of my elementary school.  If only 9 year old me could see the shit I write these days, boy would he be disillusioned.
