Not Of This World

by Jrodius on 01/04/2010

I’m not sure which one pisses me off more, the “NOTW” stickers on people’s cars or the classless wretches that hang ball sacks from their truck’s undercarriages.  While the ball sacks probably do piss me off more when I see them, the NOTW wins out in this case because I see them much more often.  And not just on bumper stickers (one of my known kryptonites) but on clothing as well.

My hate for this trend stems from it’s mindless followers.  It is fitting that Jesus is depicted as a shepherd because his people seem to be sheep that will buy anything with his name on it.

The formula is simple:

  1. Pick a phrase from the bible- NOTW chose John 17: 14-17.
  2. Make an acronym based on the phrasing
  3. Look around at the designs that secular fashion designers have been honing for decades
  4. Copy it and smack your logo on it
  5. Sell to sheep who want to believe they are communing with God through cotton.

Actually I don’t have much of a problem at all with the company itself.  This is America, make a buck or two.  More power to you.  My issue is with the people who buy this stuff.  I have one question: “Are you really this desperate?”

What is missing from your life that you need this?  This is a company profiting on your faith.  Your faith which should be your most personal and protected possession.  Why would you want to pay money for it?  It’s free.  Do you feel it helps you get one step closer to heaven?  Really?

What exactly is the NOTW shirt to sin exchange rate these days?  1 shirt absolves you of something minor like cheating on an exam, but only a bumper sticker and a hat combined will get you off for shoplifting.

It is like church.  Why would someone spend money, sometimes good chunks of their income, on church?  Communing with God is monetarily free.

Well I see that I have no hope of beating them, so I think it is time for me to join them.  Look for my new line of Christ clothing “YMPC” which should be hitting shelves soon.  It stands for You May Purchase Children from Leviticus 25: 44-46 which reads:

“However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you.  You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land.  You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.  You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.”

It feels good to do the Lord’s work.

Stars & Stripes For Jesus

12.16.2009

I love Chipotle.  I go there like 2-3 times a week easy. Sunday night was no different.  I rolled on in there to pick up dinner for Mrs. Rodius and myself.  And what did I see parked right next to the spot I was pulling into?  It was like someone took all the things that [...]

My Response

The following is my response to a friend who posted a video on Facebook with the tagline, “Anyone with any doubt needs to watch this video.”  Here is said video:

Here are my thoughts on the video above:
Mr. Forbes’ first point, about the minister, has nothing to do with law. Just because a bunch of Christians [...]

Christian Nation?

04.10.2009

This week I have heard a lot of outrage regarding Obama’s comments while in Turkey.  Specifically regarding his comments on whether or not America is a Christian Nation.  This has stirred up a bunch of controversy for some folks.  But, unfortunately, I am consistently seeing the President misquoted by many of these folks.  Let’s try [...]

Someone Stole My Rib!

03.13.2009

I think it’s time to move to Vermont.  A recent study found that the number of people who claim they have no religion is growing.  I always like to say that I belong to one of the smallest minorities in the country, non-believers.  According to the article above the number of non-believers has grown to [...]
