No More Bloc Party’s

by Jrodius on 11/07/2009

Don’t give me shit about the incorrect use of punctuation in the title, I understand the difference between “parties” and “party’s”.  But I am going to talk about the band Bloc Party so I took artistic license.

Bloc Party is a band whose album Silent Alarm I still consider one of the best albums in the last 5 years.  I used to listen to this album over and over again.  Unfortunately, their subsequent releases were less than stellar and often disjointed.  Well I just read they were breaking up and the singer/front man Kele Okereke is most likely going solo.  While it’s a shame, I am stoked to hear what Kele can do on his own.  If you are not familiar with their music I have included a couple of vids.

This first one I absolutely love.  Some dudes that were already filming a different segment saw Kele in the bar and convinced him to come outside and sing a song.  He chose This Modern Love.  You may recognize this song if you watch How I Met Your Mother, it was featured in the season finale a few years back when Ted and Robin finally got together.

And I maintain that Bloc Party also has one the most intelligent drummers in rock right now.  He may not look like much, but if you listen to their albums he makes such smart choices rhythmically.  Here is the official for the single “Helicopter”.

Final Fantasy

01.14.2009

Restlessness in a dingy Kentucky hotel room brought me here.  Final Fantasy is a one man band.  A guy named Owen Pallett.  Just he and his violin.  He uses foot pedals to record live loops which he layers upon to create a full swelling sound.  He does originals and covers.  The first one below is [...]
