Best Of The Decade Contest

by Jrodius on 12/28/2009

One thing I love about the end of each year is all the “Best Of” lists that spring up.  So you can imagine this year is even more fun for me because it is populated by “Best Of the Decade” lists as well.

For those near and dear to me, you know that I am a freak for Arcade Fire.  This Christmas I was stoked to get one of the gifts I had been really hoping for, a copy of the recent reprinting of their debut album “Funeral” on vinyl.

This album has appeared on the Best Album Of The Decade lists of: Pitchfork (#2), The Guardian UK (#5), Rolling Stone (#6), NME (#7), Entertainment Weekly (#7).  Luckily, for both me and one of you, the record I just received came with an access code for a free digital download of this award winning album.  And I am willing to give it away for free to anyone that is interested.  I know it’s not much, but free is free, and I am happy to give away the gift of this great album to anyone who wants it.  Just reply in the comments area below with your email address or Twitter account.

With that out of the way, let’s get to my own “Best Of The Decade” lists.

  1. LOST
  2. The Office
  3. Arrested Development
  4. Daily Show
  5. Scrubs
  6. 30 Rock
  7. How I Met Your Mother
  8. Entourage
  9. Colbert Report
  10. Family Guy

Best Album

  1. Arcade Fire- “Funeral”

  3. Kanye West- “Graduation”
  4. LCD Soundsystem- “Sound Of Silver”
  5. Arcade Fire- “Neon Bible”
  6. Jose Gonzalez- “Veneer”

  8. Nikola Sarcevic- “Lock-Sport-Krock”
  9. Shiny Toy Guns- “We Are Pilots”
  10. The Shins- “Chutes Too Narrow”

Think I am crazy?  Have I lost your respect forever by not picking a country album, or a reality show?  Tell me so.  But better yet you better give me a reason why you are right and I am wrong.  And don’t forget to leave your info for the free Arcade Fire album drawing I will do later this week.  Don’t be afraid to tell a friend about it if you think they may be interested in winning.  That’s what the buttons below the picture are for by the way.

OK, first of all I am a give-away whore I can admit it. If it’s free I want it… even if it’s like mens stinky deodorant at target, I still want it cause its free. And second of all. A little sad that Taylor Swift didn’t make the top 10…. F&*( Kanye he was WRONG Beyonce is not the best! Taylor is!

Oh My God, I have failed you all. I forgot to put Mad Men on my list. If I were to fix it, I would put Mad Men in at #5 and bump all the others down.

Please forgive me Don Draper.

Okay, so I know you’re not a Radiohead fan but Kid A is the best album of the decade. Period. Couple other albums from the 2K’s I’ve enjoyed: Costello Music, The Fratellis; Oracular Spectacular, MGMT; both albums by MIA; Cast of Thousands, Elbow; both albums by TV on the Radio; Sea Change, Beck; A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay. I’d include Midnite Vultures by Beck even though it came out at the end of 1999, but it dominated my life for most of the decade.
As far as TV goes, I agree with most of your picks (especially Mad Men and Arrested Development) but one show I think that still goes underappreciated for its genius is South Park. Except for this last season(which I felt was particularly weak), no show has been able to comment upon American culture and politics as accurately and cunningly as Trey and Matt. Plus, the best sports show on TV is Pardon the Interruption and the best non-satirical news show continues to be 60 Minutes. Other mentionables: Aqua Team Hunger Force, Frisky Dingo (a criminally underrated Adult Swim show), The Office (UK), Spaced (from the Shaun of the Dead guys), Life on Mars (UK), Da Ali G Show, The Sopranos, SportsCenter, and NFL Prime Time.
And what about movies? No particular order:
The Lord of the Rings trilogy,Children of Men, Inglourious Basterds, Shaun of the Dead, Kill Bill Parts I and II, The Incredibles, Pan’s Labyrinth, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Traffic, Munich, The Departed, Adaptation, Babel, Dear Zachary (devastating documentary, YouTube it), There Will Be Blood, Punch Drunk Love, No Country for Old Men, District 9.
