How is it possible that I just discovered Animal Collective? Taller claims he gave me some of their stuff awhile back, but I don’t recall it. Maybe it was on a compilation CD and I just never knew who it was playing the song. Either way, it has been a long time since I had a song that I just played over and over again like I am with Animal Collective’s “My Girls”. In fact there are only a few songs that I recall capturing me like such.
So here is a list of songs that I remember actually using the repeat button on at some time in my life. Please don’t judge me solely on this music, it represents time periods of my life and the things going on during them, more than the actual styles of music themselves:
Beastie Boys- Paul Revere (First tape I ever owned, and I memorized this whole song in the 5th grade)
311- Stealing Happy Hours (I shit you not, back in the day when I had trouble sleeping at night I would play this song over and over to help me relax)
Tenacious D- Wonderboy (Sometimes you just want to be reminded that rock can still be epic)
Mazzy Star- Fade Into You (If you don’t listen to the words and just enjoy the mood, it’s one of the sexiest songs ever written to me)
Nikola Sarcevic- Love Trap (One of the best break up songs)
Jimmy Eat World- For Me This Is Heaven (When everything in a relationship is just going right)
Jimmy Eat World- Polaris (Actually printed the lyrics of this song out one time, highlighted the appropriate ones, and gave them to a girl in a pathetic attempt to win her back. Yup… Creepy stalker status achieved)
Saul Williams- Om Nia Merican (If I ever became a politician, this is the song I would want to come out on the stage to)
Saul Williams- Act III, Scene 2 (This is the song I listen to on the way to my soccer games to get me hyped)
