Last night I got a sad reminder of how geeky my teenage years were. After having a man-date with my homie David I got a text from my brother. Seems he and some friends were, for some reason, referencing Star Wars and got stuck on a bit of minutia.
They wanted to know what the four legged Imperial Walkers used on the ice planet Hoth were called in Empire Strikes Back. Not hesitating for a moment I answered back that they were called AT-AT’s and hit send.
Shortly thereafter my phone dings again with a follow up. Not sure of my geek prowess, my brother writes back wanting to clarify if that was the two legged one or the four legged one. I assure him that the Imperial Walker with four legs is the AT-AT and the two legged ones are called AT-ST’s.
It is at this point that I realize that I really should have traded in the comfort of my own room and The Admiral Thrawn Triligoy of books, for a much cooler cocktail of high school parties and prophylactics. On the other hand Timothy Zahn wrote a bad ass storyline. Probably the best Star Wars novel series I have read. With Kevin J. Anderson’s Jedi Acadeny Trilogy a close second.
On a side not my man-date was to see the movie Law Abiding Citizen. A movie I really had no interest of going to see, but it was pretty damn good. Kind of Silence of the Lambs like. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be from the previews. Worth watching.

As a fellow nerd who relates…here’s some good news. Hardcover collector’s edition of The Thrawn Trilogy comes out in a little over a month.
