Guilty Pleasures Pt. II

by Jrodius on 02/13/2009

As promised, the next installment of Guilty Pleasures.

You’re driving down the street on a warm summer day.  Windows down, sun roof open, listening to your iPod as it shuffles through your awesome collection of music.  Then it happens.  THAT song comes on.  You know which one.  That single boy band track you have on your iPod, or that teen idol you had a crush on when you were 13.  You look around, to see if you have been exposed.  SHIT! There’s two hot girls in the next lane over and you are coming up to a red light.  Must… find… new… track…  But you can’t manipulate that fucking touch wheel on the fly and look at the road at the same time.  Why is there no panic button on this fucking thing! You realize your only hope is to forgo the possibility of looking cool at the red light and abandon ship.  Quicker than Chevy Chase in downtown St. Louis, you gotta Roll Em Up!

These songs are what I refer to as the Windows Up songs.  We all have them.  Perhaps men more than women.  I’m not sure women are exposed to the same form of ridicule as men in this area.

I’m not gonna lie.  I have a shitload of these songs.  I know I should probably just delete them and move on with it, but the secret behind Windows Up songs is that they are good songs.  Songs you WANT to hear, songs you want to bang on your steering wheel as you sing them at the top of your lungs.  But you can’t… At least not without the windows rolled up.

My Top 5 Windows Up Songs:

#5 Cher  “Believe” – Come on, this beat is just way too fun.  And the chorus of it is absolutely made to be sung out loud.  Plus the chick has stayed fairly hot for her age.

#4 Wilson Philips “Hold On”- I’ve always loved this song.  I think I had the tape.  Once again when the chorus hits you just have to tap your toe and sing along.  Plus two of the chicks in the band were hot.

Wilson Philips – Hold on for one more day

#3 Backstreet Boys “Larger Than Life”- If I didn’t look totally queer yet, this one should definitely do the trick.  But come on! This song is totally fun, if you take out the latent homo-eroticism of the video, and the fact that only girls actually listen to their music.

#2 Nelson “Love and Affection”- Bought this tape in Junior High School.  I listened to it over and over again.  Am I ashamed to admit it?  Yes. Does it change the fact that this song rocks? No.  Great Butt-Rock Ballad.

#1 NSYNC “Bye, Bye, Bye”- You know you wanna do the dance.  Go ahead… I’ll look the other way.

I would need to be near death to listen to Cher but i do have a few guilty pleasures of my own. These are songs I say are Bri’s on itunes but that could be stretching it.

Does Chicago count as a guilty pleasure?

Ha ha ha…Dude, I’m in tears rolling. This is so gay, er…Prop 8. What a great blog topic! Okay, here’s my list:

Girlfriend – Avril Lavigne – It’s just so fun.

Nothing Compares 2 U – Sinead O’Connor

Right Here Waiting – Richard Marx – I have close my eyes to sing this one properly.

Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy – Queen – My stance on Prop 8 may have some doing a double take if I’m belting this out at the top of my lungs…

The Humpty Dance – Digital Underground (windows stay up only because my wife is laughing because I still know every word and sing loud and proud)

Dude… the Sinead O’Connor and Richard Marx are EXCELLENT pulls. Kinda pissy I didn’t think of them.

I have another version of this topic I’ll be doing in the next week or so. Little different spin.

I can’t deny the brilliance of “Toxic” by Britney Spears. It’s like a James Bond song but without the Sheryl Crow.

Didn’t you go to the NSYNC concert or listen in the parking lot, or something like that?

I don’t think I’ve even heard Larger Than Life.

Ok full disclosure… Me and a few friends did tailgate the NSYNC concert at Qualcom in San Diego.
